Czech trade licenses for foreigners: what do you need?
We’ll register a trade license for you within 5 working days of the documents being submitted. The documents differ depending on whether you have a permanent address in the European Union or not.
Foreigners with a permanent address in the EU:
- Proof of identity. Send us a copy of your ID or passport.
- Criminal record. It can’t be older than 90 days. You can get yours at a CzechPoint (located at Czech post offices).
- Consent to the place of business. To receive a trade license, you need a business address in the Czech Republic as well as the property owner’s consent; or you can simply use one of our virtual offices. You do not need a permanent address in the Czech Republic.
Foreigners with a permanent address outside the EU:
- Proof of identity. Send us a copy of your ID or passport.
- Criminal record. It can’t be older than 90 days and must be officially translated into Czech (we can take care of the translation for you). For some countries, you’ll also need an apostille (proof of signature and stamp). We’ll inform you of the precise requirements.
- Consent to the place of business. To receive a trade license, you need a business address in the Czech Republic as well as the property owner’s consent; or you can simply use one of our virtual offices. You do not need a permanent address in the Czech Republic.
- Long-term Residency Permit. You can request this permit at the Ministry of the Interior.
Notice:
- The content of the trade registration service varies depending on your specific situation. Please be aware that, in certain cases, we are unable to register foreigners for Czech health insurance and social security. - Criminal records for Ukrainian citizens are currently unavailable. These records can be replaced by a Declaration of Impunity, which we write in the form of a notary deed. Unfortunately, this can't be done remotely, so please visit our office to handle it.
Types of trade licenses
There are 4 types of trade licenses in the Czech Republic:
Unqualified trade license
The most common type of business; anyone over the age of 18 and with a clean record can request it. Neither education nor experience in the field are required.
For example:
retail and wholesale, marketing, the graphic arts, translation and interpreting services, preliminary and finishing construction work, accommodation services
Vocational trade license
You’ll need to meet the professional competency (education in the field, professional qualification, re-qualification, or work experience), or you’ll need to establish a responsible guarantor who fulfils the conditions on your behalf.
For example:
hairdresser, baker, painter, carpenter, bricklayer, vehicle modifications, cosmetic services
Professional trade license
Here you need to prove your professional competency (education in the field, professional qualification, re-qualification, work experience), or you to establish a responsible guarantor.
For example:
massage services, real estate, driving school, psychological counselling
Permitted trade license
To get the trade license for permitted trades, you’ll need a special permit issued by the state or municipality.
For example:
road motor transport up to 3.5 t or up to 9 people (i.e., trade licenses for Uber drivers, taxi drivers), liquor sales
